Anthem was the fifth best-selling game of 2019 up until the end of August

BioWare's Anthem was the fifth top-selling game in North America of 2019 up until the end of August. Sales of the troubled game came in at fifth place after Mortal Kombat 11, Kingdom Hearts 3, Madden NFL 20, and Tom Clancy's The Division 2, according to statistics from the NPD Group via industry analyst Mat Piscatella. And that's likely to surprise many. It’s no secret that Anthem didn’t get the love that EA and BioWare hoped it would.

Assassin's Creed Origins: no multiplayer, but online features make an unwelcome return

Assassin's Creed Origins hasn't quite escaped Ubisoft's kitchen sink approach. Assassin's Creed Origins doesn't have a multiplayer mode, director Ashraf Ismail has confirmed. The news came via an episode of YouTube's E3 Coliseum coverage devoted to Assassin's Creed Origins, and isn't much of a surprise; Black Flag was the last Assassin's Creed game to have competitive multiplayer, and Unity's co-op did not return for the better-received Syndicate. Why read when you can watch?

Avengers’ Black Panther expansion is a lavish free update - but it's more of the same, for better or worse

If you want more Avengers, the Black Panther War for Wakanda expansion will delight. If you want something different, well, tough luck. The addition of Black Panther and the War for Wakanda expansion pack is what Marvel’s Avengers needs. After a rocky launch and an initially pacy stream of updates, things have slowed. The developers have put out tiny XP and balance tweaks, but there’s been nothing new for fans to sink their teeth into.

Screenwriter Gary Whitta is impressed with God of War art director Raf Grassetti's hyper-realistic Star Fox designs. Grassetti has been sharing some of his Star Fox redesigns over Instagram this month, re-imagining characters from the classic Nintendo arcade game as highly detailed, realistic humanoid animals. And it has piqued the interest of the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer. Retweeting one of Grassetti’s pictures, Whitta - a long-time gamer and former game journalist - declared over Twitter: “I want to write this animated movie”:
